Great update from Tim Perkin, out on a Gap Year Adventure in Malawi…
We are loving working with Tearfund’s partner LISAP and getting to know the staff. The Tumbuka language is a lot harder than Chewa but we are getting the hang of it!! Yippee!
We have recently been to the community of Usisya which is deffo worth a Google image as it is beautiful.
While we were there, we helped LISAP collect data for one of the villages involved in a savings and loan scheme. The community were in groups and were saving for school fees for their children and iron sheets for their houses. The savings scheme had been running for a while and it was great to see its effectiveness.
We also helped distribute food to families with children living with HIV so they’re able to take their medication.
Usisya is in the middle of nowhere and the only way to it is a six hour boat ride from Nkhata Bay or a four hour car ride through mountains but it is SOOOOO bumpy and more or less inaccessible. It was an incredible place and we want to return!!
